Description from goodreads :

Kenni Lowry likes to think the zero crime rate in Cottonwood, Kentucky is due to her being sheriff, but she quickly discovers the ghost of her grandfather, the town’s previous sheriff, has been scaring off any would-be criminals since she was elected. When the town’s most beloved doctor is found murdered on the very same day as a jewelry store robbery, and a mysterious symbol ties the crime scenes together, Kenni must satisfy her hankerin’ for justice by nabbing the culprits.

With the help of her Poppa, a lone deputy, and an annoyingly cute, too-big-for-his-britches State Reserve officer, Kenni must solve both cases and prove to the whole town, and herself, that she’s worth her salt before time runs out.

My opinion:
It was a real pleasure for me to discover this series, i have loved all what i was lucky to read so far from Tonya Kappes and this is no exception. This series is a cozy mystery mixing investigation with a touch of paranormal and the whole is perfectly  balanced making it a very enjoyable story.

Kenni Lowry is the sheriff of her small city and not everyone is happy about that. However, Kenni is following in her poppa's steps and she really loves her job. When a murder, then a robbery occur the citizens are all over themselves and it's Kenni's job to find the culprit(s) and bring back the peace.  Calling into the help of the State Reserve officer , she receives Finn as a temporary deputy  and she isn't too indifferent to his charms thankfully he is also very competent.
After asking for his help she also get the visit ( and help) from her Poppa as a ghost making appearances at the most inadequate time but still being of a great comfort to her.

I loved how the investigation took place in the small city and how Kenni had to learn to separate  friends from suspects . While i had my suspicion the author manage to twists some situation to make your doubt your instincts and surprise you with her revelations.

All together it's a really great series that i plan to continue, i just would have loved if Kenni adjusted herself quicker to her Poppa appearances.

Score:  4,5/5
